Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy

Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy is not a specific type of therapy. Instead, it comes from a core value that neurodivergence is not a “problem” or condition that must be addressed, amended, or corrected.
We believe that those with autistic, ADHD, or other diverse brain types are exactly who they are supposed to be.

Diversity in neuro-types is beautiful and there is value in what these brain types have to offer in personal relationships, in their communities, and in our world.

The goal of neurodiversity affirming therapy is to meet a client where they are and support any current barriers or struggles they are facing. We will also challenge any internal narratives one might have that they are broken, damaged, or lacking in any way.

We find the idea of attempting to make neurodivergent folks look “neurotypical” outdated and offensive. However, there is value for the neurodivergent person to better understand the general social expectations and norms of our society so that they are informed and empowered to choose to what extent (if any) they might want to participate. Navigating the neurotypical world can be exhausting and confusing.
